Community Service Project Opportunities
Alpine cares about our community and beyond. We are involved in service projects on a regular basis. Some of these projects benefit our immediate community, and some reach out to other parts of the nation and even around the world. We invite you to join us as we serve. Contact the church office for more information about any of these projects:
Emmaus House Community Dinners Each month Alpiners provide a delicious meal and valuable services to the less fortunate in our community through the ministry center at St. Francis de Sales Church. We serve dinner to our guests, and on any given month we may help them with their tax forms and job applications, give free haircuts, monitor their blood pressure, or help in other practical ways. But the best part is just the time we get spend with our new friends, sharing the love of Christ. We need servers, helpers, and food preparers every month. Contact team coordinator
Sue Leahy for details or to volunteer. Monthly on the 2nd Sunday. Next meal: March 14
PADS Alpine has taken responsibility for coordinating, cooking and serving dinner on the 4th Saturday of each month (October-April) for the Lake County PADS. These meals are served in the basement of Messiah Lutheran Church in Wauconda to approximately 40 homeless guests. Messiah has a team to help with their shelter, breakfast and lunch. We are looking for volunteers to provide and serve dinner. Learn more about PADS here. Contact Donna for more information or to volunteer.
Monthly on the 4th Saturday October-April. Next meal: February 27

Sheltering Oak Give a stocking full of gifts for one of the residents of Sheltering Oak, an intermediate care facility for adults with disabilities in Island Lake IL. We'll provide you with a stocking, resident's name and a shopping list: you fill it up! There are stockings for all 70+ residents. We are also accepting donations toward supplying each resident with a $10 pre-paid phone card; and we are looking for bakers to supply a dozen cookies for each resident. Stockings and cookies due December 20. Phone the church office (847-540-8280) for more info. 12/04/09 Update: All stockings accounted for! Thank You! We still need cookies and donations for phone cards.

Ela Township Food Pantry Even in our affluent community, there are a significant number of people who struggle to supply their families with the most basic of necessities. The Ela Township Food Pantry, hosted at St. Francis de Sales Church, is a lifeline for those who need assistance. Donations of non-perishable food items (no open, expired or glass items, please) are collected in the bin in Alpine's main entrance, and are brought to the Pantry on a regular basis by a team of volunteers. Interested in volunteering? Contact Donna
Adopt-a-Highway Alpine has "adopted" a 2-mile stretch of Old McHenry Road, just north of the church building. Several times a year adults, teens and kids meet at the church building early on Saturday mornings, get a safety vest and a donut, and head out to clean up our road. This is a great project to connect with other Alpiners while helping to beautify our community. Next cleanup: Spring 2010Contact Jim Dement for info.

Project Serve Four times a year, the Project Serve team arranges for serving opportunities appropriate for whole families to serve together. Check out current projects on the Project Serve web page.
Operation Christmas Child was a huge success! Thank you!
Next project: Spring 2010- TBA
From Tri-County Pregnancy Center: “Thank you for supporting our ministry by having a baby bottle campaign this year. Your congregation raised $1007 as well as enough diapers, clothes and furniture to fill a van. We are here to help women make radically different choices for their lives and experience the healing touch of a gracious Savior. Thank you so much for your prayers and support!”
